The Opportunity
As an Electrical Apprentice - Solar Installer, you will work on real job sites alongside experienced electricians and solar installers, learning how to install and commission solar PV systems from the ground up. This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a long-term career in the electrical trade while gaining specialized experience in solar.
You will develop your skills in solar installation, electrical connections, roof work, and client service, while contributing directly to projects that help Alberta homeowners and businesses transition to clean energy.
What You'll Do
- Install solar PV systems under the direction of journeypersons, including racking, modules, wiring, and electrical connections.
- Handle on-site materials safely and efficiently, including loading/unloading, staging equipment, and lifting items to approximately 60 lbs.
- Support electrical and solar system testing, troubleshooting, and quality checks to ensure installations meet code, design, and performance expectations.
- Assist with electrical panel upgrades and service work related to solar projects as required.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas, including job sites, vehicles, tools, and equipment to keep crews efficient and safe.
- Follow PPE, fall protection, and all site safety requirements, contributing actively to a safety-first culture.
- Interact politely and professionally with customers, representing Pro West on site with clear communication and respectful conduct.
What Success Looks Like
- Within the first 36 months, you can independently complete core installation tasks (racking layout, module placement, basic wiring) to company standards and on schedule.
- You consistently follow safety procedures at heights and on the ground, with no preventable safety incidents and proactive hazard reporting.
- Journeypersons and lead installers trust you to prepare materials, tools, and site setup so projects start smoothly each day.
- Customers and team members comment on your professionalism, reliability, and positive attitude on site.
What We're Looking For
- Registered electrical apprentice, or a strong intention to complete an electrical apprenticeship and build a career in the trade.
- Comfort working at heights and on roofs is essential, with the ability to work safely outdoors year-round in Alberta weather.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable personal transportation to reach job sites across the Edmonton region.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools, with a willingness to learn new installation techniques.
- Team-oriented mindset, strong work ethic, and a customer-focused approach on every job.
Compensation and Benefits
- CA$20 to CA$40 per hour, depending on apprenticeship level.
